Reasons for cracking of solid wood furniture and how to prevent it
Temperature and humidity affect the cracking, swelling, and deformation of furniture, and determine the wet expansion and shrinkage deformation of wood, the volume shrinkage of dry wood, and the volume expansion of wet wood. The expansion and contraction of wood volume may cause deformation and warpage of wood, and the same is true for external force, gravity extrusion deformation and warpage.
Solid wood furniture
Because the moisture content of mahogany is not balanced with the moisture content of the external environment. The comprehensive factors of the external natural environment lead to high moisture content. Excessive absorption of external moisture by wood will cause the furniture to swell and warp. The moisture content of furniture is higher than the comprehensive factors of the external natural environment. The release of moisture from wood to the external natural environment will cause external air resistance. The dry natural environment will absorb moisture from the interior of the mahogany, and too much will cause the furniture to crack.
This is a problem between the dry moisture content of wood and the moisture content of the natural environment. When the moisture content of the wood is greater than the moisture content of the natural environment, the water molecules in the wood move to the atmosphere, which means that the moisture content of the wood is lower than the fiber saturation point. When the dry wood continues to dry, the volume shrinks; when the dried wood absorbs moisture, as the absorbed water increases, it stops when the moisture content of the fiber saturation point is reached. When the moisture content of the wood is above the fiber saturation point and only the free water changes, the volume of the wood does not change. Due to the unevenness of the wood structure, the expansion and contraction of the volume of the wood may cause the deformation and warpage of the wood.
